To me, sunflower seeds represent the aspect of hope that many of us lose side of as we are going through our trials and tribulations of life. Watching a sunflower seed, grow from seed to plant to flower, and then become the instrument for feeding the eyes, beauty and the birds nourishment, as well as humans. It has become one of the ways that I feel connected to both of the Earth and myself and my mother who started this journey. Each seed represents a part of me that is also a part of her and the mini generations of sunflowers that came before and after. Observing a sunflower seed’s transformation from a tiny seed to a flourishing plant, then to a beautiful flower, and finally becoming a source of nourishment for birds, humans, and the environment, has become a profound connection for me to both the Earth and my mother, who initiated this journey.
